π― IN MEMORY OF ROMAN HARAGATATY
On September 17, the Zmiiv community said goodbye to its fellow countryman, Senior Lieutenant Roman Garagaty, whose life was cut short by the war.
For a long time, Roman was considered missing. His relatives waited for news, hoped, and believed until the last moment in his return. Unfortunately, the results of the DNA examination confirmed the death of the Defender.
Roman Garagaty was born on May 29, 1976 in Zmiiv. His hometown was the place where he grew up, studied, made friends, and began his life journey.
Roman studied at Zmiiv Lyceum No. 1. After the ninth grade, he entered the Kharkiv Road Technical School, and later continued his studies at the Kharkiv Road Institute.
He worked at various enterprises. There was also a period of service in law enforcement agencies in his life - Roman worked as a police officer in the village of Taranivka.
He started a family in 2008. Together with his wife, they raised a daughter.
On February 17, 2023, Roman was mobilized into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as a rifle platoon commander, held the rank of senior lieutenant. For his conscientious service and performance of combat missions, he was repeatedly awarded.
On June 16, 2025, near the settlement of Odradne, Volnovakha district, Donetsk region, Roman Garagaty died while performing a combat mission.
From that day on, he was considered missing. For his family, long months of waiting began. Every piece of news could be the one they had been waiting for. Every day left hope.
But the war took Roman away forever.
Today he returned to his native Zmiyev for the last time.
His relatives and friends, government officials, friends, fellow countrymen, and fellow countrymen came to see the Warrior off on his final journey. Bowing their heads before the Defender's coffin, the community paid their last respects to the man who stood up for the defense of Ukraine and remained faithful to his military duty until the end.
Roman is survived by his wife Olena and daughter. For them, this loss is a pain that cannot be measured in words. For the Zmiiv community, it is another name of a fellow countryman, forever inscribed in our memory of the price of the struggle for Ukraine.
Thank you Roman for protecting our homeland.
Eternal memory and eternal respect to the Defender of Ukraine.
Rest in peace, Warrior.
