IN MEMORY OF OLEKSII KOVALEV
On May 29, residents of the Zmiiv community said goodbye to the fallen Defender Oleksiy Kovalev, who gave his life for the freedom and independence of our state.
Oleksiy Kovalev was born on October 14, 1993 in the village of Birochok-2. He grew up in a large, friendly family with a brother and three sisters. He studied at a Christian school in the village of Veleten, and later received his education at the Kharkiv Mechanical Engineering College.
Since childhood, he was fascinated by technology, loved animals, and was a sincere, kind, and cheerful person. Family and friends remember him as a caring son, brother, husband, and father who was always ready to support and help.
In 2019, Oleksiy started his own family. He and his wife lived in the village of Tymchenky, where their son Artem was born. He worked as a machine operator and tractor driver, conscientiously taking care of the well-being of his family.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Oleksiy voluntarily joined the defense of Ukraine. He fought in the hottest areas of the front, courageously performed combat missions, repeatedly suffered wounds and contusions. For his loyalty to the military oath and courage, he was awarded the medal "For Military Service to Ukraine" and the honorary distinction "For the Liberation of Kharkiv."
After numerous injuries, he was discharged in 2025 due to health reasons. However, love for his homeland and a sense of duty did not allow him to remain on the sidelines. In 2026, Oleksiy, together with his brother, returned to the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On May 25, 2026, a soldier, senior flamethrower of military unit A4955, Oleksiy Kovalev, died while performing a combat mission in the area of the settlement of Pavlivka, Vasylkiv district, Zaporizhia region.
The farewell ceremony for the Defender took place in the village of Tymchenky. Relatives, friends, brothers, government representatives, and caring community residents came to see the Hero off on his final journey.
The bright memory of a courageous warrior, loving husband, father, son, and brother will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
